Happy Valentine's Day

Saint Valentine's Day was first established in 496 AD by Pope Gelasius 1 and was associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. By the 15th century, it had evolved into an occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending hand written greeting cards .

Today, Valentine's Day has been commericalised and is more about offering extravagant gifts rather than honest sentiments. This Valentines Day I urge everyone to show their loved ones how they feel by giving gifts that are meaningful, such as hand written cards, hand written token books or even a stay at home movie night, rather than buy a mass produced gift.

I'll be spending this Valentine's Day having a GLEE Marathon in bed with my Fiancee of two years. And I'd love to know how you are spending yours....
